Online car buying scam targets Canadian consumers

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, the scam is about Ambient Auto Centre, which as been advertising high-end, late model vehicle on several Canadian websites at very low prices.

John Cobb, an investigator with the Oklahoma Used Motor Vehicle and Parts commission warns that it’s “just a complete scam. They’re trying to get a victim on the hook to wire them the money for a vehicle.”

So far, the false company has advertised on Autotrader, Wheels, eBay, Craigslist, Kijiji and Autocatch, the story said.

The website for Ambient says it has the largest selection of used luxury cars; however, the Winnipeg Free Press says that the photos of the vehicles have been taken off of other sites.

Cobb said in the story that the company promises to ship the vehicle, but it won’t happen, and the buyer is out of the money sent. But, there may be some good news. Cobb said that he was able to track the company’s bank account to Georgia and their website registration to Los Angeles.

Terry O’Keefe, with the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council, said in the Winnipeg Free Press that consumers should take extra precautions when buying a vehicle online. “Call to find out if the dealership is licensed, and, if possible, go see the vehicle or have someone trustworthy do so on your behalf.”

MuscleCar’s Dart gets a paint job, plus we head to the Ford Shelby Meet!

If you’ve checked out the most recent issue of PowerBlock Magazine, you know that we’ve recently featured MuscleCar’s Project Business Time, with stories that feature sheet metal work and how to install a roll cage.

Though we’ve already shown you the completed 700-plus HP project, this weekend on a NEW episode of MuscleCar, our Dart goes from black, to plastic, to primer, to painted! Plus, the guys show you how to use your computer to make graphics for your ride.

“Well, there is no denying that billboards get attention, so we kept that in mind on our Dart!” Tommy said about the project. “And as if the paint, engine and rear tires wouldn’t do the trick, we just had to put the Hemi on the hood!”

Sense a little bit of sarcasm there?
