A Toyota Prius taxi equipped with an aftermarket LPG installation exploded earlier this week in Barcelona, Spain.
According to Auto Evolution, there were no passengers in the cab, but the driver sustained first-degree burns on his head. Two people behind the Prius were also injured.
Two weeks before the explosion, the Prius had apparently been modified to run on LPG, but the story reported that Toyota’s Spanish extension quickly released an official statement explaining that it doesn’t recommend that specific conversion for its cars.
The company said that Toyota Spain disapproves the amendment of any of their vehicles (hybrid or not) through the installation of LPG, as those facilities substantially change the operation conditions of the vehicle and don’t meet the company’s requirements for technical approval.
