Last week we told you about the Chrysler Ram 1500 improving fuel efficiency with improvements to engineering elements and a thermal management system, while Ford has been bragging about the fuel efficiency of its EcoBoost system.
So, what’s GM’s planning?
According to pickuptrucks.com, GM engineers are saying they will continue to use the existing cylinder-deactivation technology, called Active Fuel Management, currently used on certain V8 options for the Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra 1500. At this time, GM will use their AFM technology in new vehicles moving forward for the 2013 models.
Current AFM technology is reported to offer between 7-8% improvements compared with non-AFM models, the story says. But is it enough to keep up with the Ram 1500 and F-150? It’s been predicted that GM might have other ideas to help with reducing weight and increasing fuel efficiency, but nothing official has been released just yet.
