1967 Camaro makes television debut in Chevy’s first ad

Described as a “fiery, new creation from Chevrolet,” and “something you’ve never seen before in a driving machine” the 1967 Camaro was introduced on televisions across America in Chevy’s first commercial.

The cheesy 2-minute ad featured a volcano erupting in the middle of the desert, with smoke and flames surrounding the SS 350 as the muscle car’s highlights were described in the narrator’s deep voice.

The pressure to advertise likely came from Ford, who introduced a major re-design of the Mustang for the 1967 model year.
